Lack of total considerations and concerns – Without the complete considerations, the network may not be integrated. Some of the hardwares or software may not be appended and used. e.g. the files may not be efficiently transferred from one domain to another domain with VPN setting. The MAC machine cannot be connected to share the same resource server with other PC machines. And also lack of communication between the actual computer users and designers may lead to the insufficient consideration for network designs.
Inappropriate servers used – When more than 20 workstations are used in the network, the dedicated login server should be separated from the file server. It will reduce the loading of the server. And even the NAT, DHCP and Firewall services etc should be assigned on the different servers to evenly allocate and balance the loading of servers. Otherwise, the un-balanced usage and insufficient servers may make the network fall down.
Without geographical considerations for network structure – If the nodes are not properly distributed in several different locations across the floors, buildings, and even cities, the workstations before the nodes may not be efficiently connected to another resource or host for communication. To prevent overloading the network or some certain nodes, the workstations should be evenly distributed and shared with what switch or hub. The switch should be considered to replace the hub used for the communication of many frequent using workstations. The bridge or router should be considered for the efficient and appropriate data transferring between the subnets and prevent from the overloading of network.
Inappropriate protocols and applications used – To reduce the redundant broadcasting and unnecessary electronic data, such as TCP/IP protocol should be used. Segmentation and router etc may isolate the network traffic within a particular area of a network and reduce the overloading of network due to broadcasting messages. For the software applications, better dedicated server with larger memory capacity should be used. The application should have the capability of scheduling tasks. The replication of database information between different hosts should be scheduled at the proper times when response-time-sensitive traffic is low.
Limited future expansion – The 802.11a or g access point should be considered to be built up instead of 802.11b old standard. The laptop computer with RJ45 socket may not use the old coaxial 10Base-2 cable network. Lack of consideration of foreseeing the future network developing, the future expansion is greatly limited. The old current hardware facilities or networking have to be given up and wasted. Without scalability, more workstations or hardware facilities cannot be added due to the growth of the organization.
Budget problem for network failure – Sometimes the total costing of the network cannot be afforded by limited budget, the network cannot function well for so many workstations as a result. Since the switch is much expensive than the hub, the bandwidth and data transfer cannot be allowed for many workstations to work well together when only the hub is used.
